Stucco Base Coat and Finish Coat over Cement Block Wall
This is a White Stucco Finish Coat that was applied over a Stucco Base Coat. They were applied to an unpainted cement block wall.
This drywall was damaged by water. It was removed to expose the cement block wall.
The stucco will start in this corner.
And go over to just past the mirrors.
This is the base coat. It is about 1/2" deep. I scrubbed the walls with white vinegar first and then rinsed it clean with fresh water.
The trick is to apply with a firm...not hard, even pressure. I keep a sheet of flooring panel in front of my work space.
I let the base coat dry thoroughly, (24 hours minimum) and then touched up a few spots before applying the finish coat.
The white finish coat was about 3/8" thick, no less than 1/4".
A decorative beam will cover the seam between the stucco wall and the drywall wall.
I used a soft wet brush to smooth out and texture the finish.

There were a lot of hairline cracks due to a small earthquake in 2017. The stucco was pressure washed. Any cracks or holes were then filled using white finish stucco.

Stucco Painting / Minor Repair
The home owner was preparing to sell this house and needed repairs to the stucco at the bottom of the brickwork.
I pressure washed the wall and sidewalk, chiselled off the loose stucco, then brushed on bonding adhesive just prior to applying finish stucco.
A new look will always help sell an older house.

Stucco Painting with Duramax 365
This home owner is getting ready to sell their house and wanted to freshen up the stucco with masonry paint.
I used Duramax 365 Exterior Flat "Deserted Island" It is a Benjamin Moore color that best matched the existing stucco color. Duramax 365 Exterior is a Lowes product.
Below is what it used to look like.

Painting Stucco Foundations
Masonry water proof / sealers can be tinted to almost any color. There are many off-white colors to choose from.
Often there is discoloration after repairs. Painting with a good Masonry paint is easier than trying to adjust the color of the stucco mix.

This stucco was 28 years old. Cracks had formed and loose pieces of stucco were falling off.
The foundation was pressure-washed. Loose stucco was chipped off. Deep cracks were filled with regular cement. The walls were resurfaced with white finish stucco mix fortified with a small ammount of acrylic modifier for strength and adhesion. After curing 30 days the masonry water proofer was applied.
This chimney is about 50 feet from ground to top. It needed repairs at the top and along the seems where it met the siding.
The following photos show the foundation after loose stucco was removed.
You can see that whole sections need stucco reapplied.
The next photos show the structure with a fresh coat of masonry sealer. The color is called "Sand Dollar".
Protecting Stucco Walls from Splashing and Mud
After the masonry sealer was applied. I prepared the area under the deck with a retaining form made from pressure treated 4"x4" lumber.
I put a 4" deep base under the deck using 3/4" clean quarry stone. The pressure treated wood form will keep the stone from washing away.
This stone covering will keep rainwater that runs off the deck from splashing mud on the walls. It also brightens up the area.
