The downspouts on this house drained the rainwater too close to the foundation. Extending them out by attaching a long solid corex pipe remedied the problem.
This short pipe simply emptied the water next to the foundation. It went straight down and into the basement.
The rain water needed to be directed out into the front yard away from the house.
PA One Call "Pennsylvania 811" is contacted prior to any excavation.
This trench was dug by hand in the designated area. It went under the edge stones of the flower bed.
The corex pipe was then "back-filled" in. The soil was gently tamped over the pipe.
The pipe went underground and tied into the main pipe using either a "T" or "Y" connector.
Delaware River Pebble was spread over top to hide the pipe.
I covered the end of the pipe with Delaware River Rock so that no small animals or debris can clog it. The lawn mower will safely pass over it.

This property had issues with the rain water water-logging the neighbors property. It will be directed from the corner of the house out to the curb.
PA One Call was first notified. The phone line and all electrical cables were marked. The area closest to the cables was dug by hand.
A trencher was used to excavate the rest of the area.
The area was carefully back-filled taking care not to crush the pipe.
A transit was used to obtain the grade from the house to the curb. I have also slid a 6' level along the top of the corex pipe to ensure that it will drain.
The end of the drain comes out a few feet from the curb and is filled with 3/4" clean quarry stone. This keeps anything from filling the end of the pipe and allows the water to drain freely.

Water floods out from the downspout across the sidewalk. A pipe will go under the sidewalk and connect to the downspout to resolve the situation .
The pipe is attached at the downspout then tightly packed in under the sidewalk. The area is then back-filled.
The end comes out near a storm basin. The pipe is filled with clean quarry stone to keep out rodents and debris while still allowing good drainage.

These burning bushes were removed so a pipe could connect to the downspout and join the main pipe via a "Y" connector.
This was half the drainage system. The other half connects the front downspouts and takes them down to the storm basin at another point.
Due to roots, the pipe is trenched shallow and topsoil is brought in to cover it close to the house.
The old drainage pipe is white PVC. I am using "Solid 4" Black Corex Pipe. The corner of the house is connected with a "T" fitting then buried underground and directed to the storm basin.
Again the pipe end is filled with quarry stone.

The downspouts were washing the soil from the beds everytime it rained hard. This first picture shows where a French drain is installed.
It starts up hill a little to the right of where the photo ends
The soil washes out right along the edge of the bed.
It washes out all the way to the bottom.
First I dug the ditch along the edge of the bed. Next I filled it with clean 3/4" Quarry stone for good drainage.
After the drain has been made, I covered the stone with 3" Delaware River Rock.
Here's what it looks like from the front.
On the left you see a small wall. It was actually built over the downspout drain pipe that I put underground and had come up out in the yard.
I got rid of the horizontal piece and directed the downspout into a corex pipe under ground. The end came up in the yard a few feet away where it could drain freely without washing out the mulch.
This was a nice combination of drainage combined with a small retaining wall
On the other corner of the house, a similar project was done, however, the wall was built over the french drain, not a corex pipe.
The corex pipe leads away from the downspout and opens into a french drain. Delaware river rock was put on top of the drain for looks.
The owner wanted a small wall around the bed. I extended the french drain and stradled the wall blocks over it.
This project worked out nicely.

This next project required digging under the sidewalk so that three downspouts could drain out into the yard.
The drain will come out where the shovel is.
The pipe will go under the sidewalk here.
This downspout is in the back yard and will drain around front to a "T" connection on the house side of the walk.
Stone dust is packed tight under the sidewalk around the corex pipe.
The customer says it drains just fine. The true test will be in the winter months.
